Concept study to evaluate the installation of an additional cooler on the FPSO Petrojarl BANFF, required to avoid production shutdowns during maintenance of the in-service cooler.
Scope & Deliverables
Confirmation of potential locations for the new cooler and its associated pipework with “double block and bleed” isolations. Deliverables comprised a detailed 3D CAD model of the proposed layout combined with laser scan data capturing the existing plant.
Use of a “freestyle” scanner to capture plant data, which, combined with as-built drawings, photographs and site sketches enabled a detailed concept to be completed. Challenges included a compressed timescale for delivery, limited survey time and congested / inaccessible areas.
Our approach reduced the cost and schedule of the concept evaluation by 50%. The rapid data capture and modelling reduced project risk and uncertainty and will enable cost and schedule savings of at least 30% in the FEED stage.
