The FPSO Petrojarl BANFF currently has two Fresh Water (FW) units which do not produce enough drinking water to meet daily consumption. A new skid based Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant has been built and a suitable location has to be determined on site.
Scope & Deliverables
The study scope was to review the removal of one FW unit and installation of the new RO plant. Deliverables consisted of a composite 3D CAD model showing the designed RO plant combined with scan data capturing the proposed location.
A “freestyle” scanner was used to capture the proposed location, which, combined with an asbuilt 3D CAD Model, photographs and site sketches enabled the equipment to be accurately located on site.
Challenges included limited time on the plant, routing pipe work through already congested areas and short study timescale.
Application of the scanner for this scope was a perfect solution to overcome the technical challenges. SCE delivered the study in less than 50% of the cost and schedule using a conventional approach. The rapid data capture and modelling reduced project risk and uncertainty for the next stage of the project.
